Woman fends off robbery with the help of Good Samaritans

A 21-year-old woman has two Indian men to thank for fending off a robbery in which she nearly lost an iPhone 7 worth HK$5,000.

The woman suffered only minor injuries, Headline Daily reports.

The incident took place at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday in Hung Hom when the suspect, described as a mainlander, grabbed her smartphone as she was talking on it.

She fought off the suspect and shouted for help.

Two Indian men sitting in a car nearby heard her and came to her rescue.

The pair subdued the man and helped the victim recover her mobile phone before police arrived. The woman was sent to hospital and was later discharged.

Investigators said the robber, 30, came from the mainland on a two-way permit and began to look for a target as soon as he disembarked from the train at the Hung Hom Station, according to Apple Daily.

Police are investigating if he has been involved in other robberies.
