A 69-year-old woman is in serious condition after her leg was stuck in an elevator in Kwai Sing Center in Kwai Chung on Saturday.
The woman, surnamed Choi, suffered double leg fracture, Apple Daily reports.
Choi was carrying a shopping trolley when she entered the lift on the 19th floor.
The doors closed on her before she had fully entered the lift, dragging her between the 18th and 19th floors with one foot outside the doors.
A resident heard Choi’s cry for help and notified security to call the police.
It took firemen an hour to rescue Choi. She was brought to Princess Margaret Hospital, hk01 reports.
While Choi remains in serious condition, doctors have ruled out an amputation, according to Choi’s eldest son.
The management office of the building said it is in talks with the lift contractor and has asked the latter to conduct thorough inspections of other lifts on the premises.
The 36-year-old Kwai Sing Centre has three passenger lifts installed in 1980.
According to the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, the lifts were last inspected on March 16 this year.
However, residents of the building said the lift in question had a fault last month.
