Police are investigating a traffic accident in Yuen Long in which a 75-year-old woman of Nepali origin was killed.
The accident took place at about 3 p.m. Monday, when the woman carrying several bags of fruits and vegetables was crossing Kam Sheung Road, Sing Tao Daily reports.
She was walking on a pedestrian crossing when she was knocked down by a private school minibus heading toward Shek Kong.
The woman was trapped underneath the minibus and dragged for about 10 meters before the vehicle stopped.
All of the people aboard the minibus, including the diver and a dozen children, were safe.
Police and paramedics arrived at the scene and sent the woman to Pok Oi Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver, a 59-year-old woman surnamed Cheung, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death. She was granted bail and told to report to police in early July, according to Ming Pao Daily.
Preliminary investigations showed the bus was running too fast while the Nepalese woman was suspected of crossing the road without following traffic signals.
Footage from a nearby security camera showed a mother and a child crossing the same place mere seconds before the victim, narrowly escaping a tragedy.
