Blogger says old woman tried to abduct her child in Mong Kok

Famed blogger Sici Chong revealed on her Facebook page that her daughter was almost kidnapped in Mong Kok in broad daylight, and warned fellow parents to stay alert when walking with their children in crowded places, hk01.com reports.

Chong, famous for dishing out recipes in her blog, said she was with her daughter at the Grand Plaza in Mong Kok to see an eye specialist at lunchtime on Monday.

She was holding her daughter’s hand upon leaving the shopping center, when an old woman got hold of the child’s other hand in an attempt to drag her away.

The woman only let go after Chong decided to hold her daughter around her arms.

A person distributing promotional leaflets witnessed the incident and asked Chong if she knew the old lady.

Chong said the old woman was wearing a cunning smile, which indicated that she might have several accomplices nearby.

Chong said she had never expected kidnappers to be as daring, Ming Pao Daily reported.

She said she yelled to deter the old woman from grabbing her child. She then hailed a taxi and left with her daughter.

She called the police to report the incident in the evening.

Chong asked fellow parents to look after their children closely in crowded places.

A team from the Mong Kok Police District has launched an investigation.
