Man makes bomb in revenge for break-up with girlfriend

A 23-year-old renovation worker was arrested after driving his car containing explosive materials to the Wong Tai Sin Police Station on Monday evening.

The suspect, surnamed Shih, admitted that he could not take breaking up with his girlfriend and decided to threaten her by making a home-made bomb, Sing Tao Daily reports.

Shih allegedly damaged his girlfriend’s car on April 9 and May 31 on purpose after their break-up, police said. Her car was badly scratched and its braking system was broken.

Shih tried to explode the home-made bomb but failed. He then stored the low explosives in the trunk of his car and drove to the police station, according to hk01.com.

During questioning, Shih told investigators about the explosives in the car.

Police notified the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau and evacuated the station. Investigators later found more explosive materials in Shih’s home in Tuen Mun.

A 30-year-old man, surnamed Kong, was arrested on suspicion he built the bomb with Shih.

The case has been referred to the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon East Regional Headquarters.

Shih was charged with criminal damage and manufacturing explosives. Kong remains in custody.
