Signal No. 3 expected to be hoisted by noon

The Hong Kong Observatory expects the typhoon No. 3 signal to be issued in the next few hours as tropical storm Merbok moves gradually toward the coast of Guangdong.

Merbok is expected to make landfall within 100 kilometers of Hong Kong around midnight tonight.

Local winds will strengthen gradually during the day. The Observatory will consider issuing the strong wind signal No.3 between 10 a.m. and noon.

As Merbok edges closer, local weather will become unsettled with occasional squally showers. Showers will be heavy with winds strengthening further tonight.

Meanwhile, the Education Bureau has suspended classes in kindergartens, schools for children with physical disability and schools for children with intellectual disability.
