A burglar who stole money from a restaurant in Yau Ma Tei embodied an old proverb that “there’s honor among thieves”.
A female employee of a restaurant that sells Taiwanese food on Nathan Road reported a burglary to police on Tuesday morning soon after she came back to work and found the cash register pried open, Headline Daily reports.
Police officers who arrived at the scene said the burglar took advantage of Monday’s typhoon to commit the crime.
He came from the back alley and let himself in by breaking the back door.
The burglar took away HK$5,000 from the cash register but left a plastic bag with several hundred dollars in tips, according to Ming Pao Daily.
A note that says “tips for employees” was stuck on the bag. It was likely the burglar thought the money was something he was not supposed to take, investigators said.
The crime unit of the Yau Tsim Police District is following up on the case. Finger prints and footage from in-house security cameras have been collected as part of the investigation.
