South China on red alert for Typhoon Rammasun

Hainan and Guangdong are on highest alert for Typhoon Rammasun to make landfall Friday, Xinhua reported Thursday, citing mainland forecasters.

Rammasun will probably land in Hainan or Guangdong with a maximum wind speed of more than 140 km per hour at around noon, the report said.

China’s National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center issued a red alert Thursday for high seas expected in the northern part of the South China Sea, and along the coast of east Hainan and west Guangdong.

Trains destined for Hainan on Friday and Saturday will instead stop at Guangzhou, while services on Hainan’s high-speed railway, which connects Haikou and Sanya, have been suspended since Thursday.
