MTR Corporation on Monday launched a new campaign to promote safe travel on local commuter trains, using innovative posters and fresh videos to deliver the message.
Under the campaign entitled “Travel Safely Every Day in the MTR”, the rail operator rolled out a series of new promotional posters in comic style, together with three railway safety videos, to remind passengers not to bring dangerous goods into MTR premises and advise them of the response procedures in an emergency.
The three safety videos will be broadcast on MTR trains and station concourses.
Safety ambassadors in red uniform will also be deployed at selected stations to provide travel tips to passengers, and distribute mini board games conveying relevant safety messages, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.
Adi Lau Tin-shing, MTR’s operations director, reiterated that passenger safety is the company’s top priority.
Besides the efforts of MTR staff, the public’s support and cooperation is vital to ensure safety of the local railway system, Lau said.
MTR hopes to enhance public awareness on the importance of not bringing dangerous goods onto the trains or stations, the official said, adding that the campaign also aims to foster understanding on the response procedures during an emergency.
The campaign comes in the wake of a disturbing incident in February when a firebomb attack on a local train injured 18 people and later claimed the life of the perpetrator.
