An employer is under fire from netizens after a post about her domestic helper’s use of air-conditionining went viral.
The employer complained on social media that her helper turned on the air-conditioner without her permission and that she has decided to uninstall the switch, Apple Daily reports.
“She has been able to withstand stuffy conditions during a typhoon,” the woman said, adding that this time, the helper should have sought her permission.
The woman said she had originally planned to let the helper use the air-conditioning once she has completed her probation.
The employer said the helper has her own room with a view, a double bed and a fan.
Netizens lashed at the woman for her penny-pinching ways, saying she is too harsh on her helper and treats her like a slave.
They mocked her for being able to afford a domestic helper but unwilling to pay for the electricity.
Actress Candy Law said she has employed a domestic helper for 10 years, and that she has set no rules for her helper, believing in her ability to choose and act appropriately for herself.
“You would turn on the air-conditioning even for a dog if it is panting, so why mistreat a human being?” she said.
“My children are taught to respect our helper and talk to her nicely. These helpers are already very lonely to have left their own homes for such a long time,” Law said.
