A four-year-old girl fell to her death from the roof of a residential building in Yuen Long while her grandmother was doing household chores, Apple Daily reports.
The incident happened at around 4 p.m. on Monday, when residents at Block 6 of Fiori Estate on Castle Peak Road in Ping Shan heard a loud bang and found the young girl surnamed Chong lying unconscious on the first-floor balcony.
They called the police and the girl was rushed to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Chong lived with her parents, grandparents and three siblings.
Initial investigation showed that the girl’s grandmother was preparing dinner on the rooftop shortly before the incident happened.
Police found a stool at the edge of the rooftop, which the girl could have used to climb over the railings and she probably lost her balance.
Investigators were awaiting the coroner’s report.
Similar cases were reported in the past. In October last year, a six-year-old girl fell to her death from the balcony ledge of a residential estate in Tsuen Wan while playing with a 10-year-old girl.
In February last year, a three-year-old Filipino girl also fell to her death from a male’s toilet window of a church. She had apparently entered the toilet to look for her father.
