Honda to launch first motorcycle with Apple CarPlay

Honda Motor Co. is preparing to launch next year the world’s first motorcycle that will come equipped with Apple’s CarPlay entertainment system.

The Japanese vehicle manufacturer revealed last week that its new 2018 Gold Wing bike will incorporate Apple CarPlay, which has until now been used only in cars.

The upgrade will see an LCD put in the dashboard where CarPlay will be displayed, allowing the rider to control an iPhone through the display.

According to CNET’s Roadshow blog, in order to use CarPlay on Gold Wing, a rider will have to connect his phone to the motorbike via USB.

The rider will then pair a Bluetooth headset, which could be standalone or built-in in the helmet.

The rider can access Apple’s mobile apps through a seven-inch LCD display, by controlling directional buttons on the left handlebar, or a knob on the gas tank, The Verge website reports.

According to Apple’s website, there are more than 200 vehicle models from major automobile manufacturers which have partnered with Apple in supporting CarPlay.

Honda will now be using it for the first time on motorcycles.

Honda will launch its 2018 Gold Wing in February. According to reports, the bikes will come with a price tag of US$23,500 at the minimum.
