Mainland migrant suspected of killing, dismembering daughter, 12

Police suspect the horrific murder and dismembering of a 12-year-old girl over the weekend was done by her mother, who did so while she was in a confused state of mind after taking an illegal drug, Apple Daily reports.

The 37-year-old woman, a new immigrant from mainland China surnamed Cao, has not been able to give police an oral testimony since she was arrested on Sunday because she only kept mumbling while being interrogated, the newspaper said, citing an unnamed source.

Initial investigation revealed that Cao was married to a Hong Kong man, her second marriage, and moved to the city from the mainland four years ago. They later divorced. The victim, a Primary Six student at Tong Mei Road Government Primary School, was the daughter she had with her first husband.

Cao allegedly got addicted to methamphetamine, an illegal drug also known as “ice”.

On Sunday night, police received a report about a woman who borrowed a mobile phone from her neighbor but refused to return it.

When police officers arrived at Cao’s subdivided unit on the third floor of a building on Canton Road in Mong Kok, they found it was locked and water was leaking from under the door.

Police forced the door open, and found body parts in the bathtub including a head, limbs and some organs, along with blood and water on the floor. They arrested a woman in the flat, who was later identified as Cao.

An ice pick, a chopper and a bottle of bleach were also seized from the scene.

Video footage from security cameras revealed that Cao’s daughter returned home at about 7 p.m. on Saturday and had not left since, leading the police to suspect that she was killed on Saturday night.

A neighbor said she saw some dirty water coming out of Cao’s flat on Sunday and there was a strong smell of bleach. Police believed the water was from the toilet in the flat as it was clogged by dumped body parts.

Another neighbor claimed to have heard the sound of repeated chopping coming from the flat on Sunday afternoon.

Police investigators are said to be continuing to look for other body parts of the victim, although it is believed that most of them had been recovered.
