A container truck smashed into a bus stop near the Tai Lam Tunnel in western New Territories, killing a woman and leaving several people injured, before it fell down a slope.
The incident took place shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, with the truck driver saying he lost control of the vehicle, Apple Daily reports.
According to witnesses, the Yuen Long-bound truck had just passed through a toll booth about 1.5 kilometers from the exit of the tunnel when it suddenly crashed into the bus interchange, where quite a number of commuters were waiting. The speed limit in the area is 50 km per hour.
The truck then rolled down a slope and collided with a Mercedes Benz before it flipped over to its side.
More than 10 fire trucks and ambulances, together with police, arrived at the scene soon afterward.
A woman, 27, was found lying unconscious on the slope before she was confirmed dead on the spot by paramedics.
The truck driver, 51, was pulled out from his seat. He suffered an injury in the head. While most of the injured received medical treatment at the scene, four people were sent to hospital.
Firefighters cordoned off the area for several hours as they suspected the truck was carrying dangerous chemicals.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing the death.
Police urged witnesses to come forward and provide information.
