Dump truck driver arrested after fatal hit-and-run in Aberdeen

A 63-year-old man was arrested on Monday after a hit-and-run incident in Aberdeen that claimed the life of an elderly woman.

According to Apple Daily, the police received a report at about 10 am that a woman was found lying unconscious near the intersection of Aberdeen Main Road and Tung Sing Road.

Paramedics who arrived with police officers confirmed the woman as being dead at the scene. A pair of sneakers and a pair of dentures were found on the ground around her.

Based on the account of a person at the scene, officers learnt that the woman, who was aged 84, was knocked down by a medium goods vehicle. The driver did not stop after the accident, but instead sped away.

According to a passer-by, the elderly lady got trapped underneath the truck after being hit, and was dragged for about 120 meters before she fell off.

After taking the witness report and checking footage from security cameras in the neighborhood, police confirmed that she was hit by a truck on Tung Sing Road, and identified the plate number of the vehicle.

At around 3 pm, the suspected truck was found at a construction site near Fung Tin Street, about 250 meters away from the accident scene.

The driver, who bears the surname Ng, was found sitting inside the vehicle.

He was arrested for dangerous driving causing death, with officers finding a small amount of blood stains on the head and the rear mudguard of the truck.

The police have called on eyewitnesses to provide any further information they have about the accident. The investigating officers can be reached at these numbers: 36606838 and 36606848.
