The Community Care Fund Task Force will be discussing on Monday a proposal to grant HK$35.7 million to a modular social housing project of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.
The HK$35.7 million funds will be parted into around HK$25 million for materials and around HK$10 million for construction, according to the report.
The two-year project will provide 90 temporary residential units. After the lease ends, the materials can be reused in other locations.
After deducting the reusable value, the net construction cost will be around HK$10.9 million, or HK$5,100 per square meter of floor area, which is cheaper compared to similar constructions.
The Buildings Department had in April approved the project’s plan, which is to build 3 three-storey temporary buildings using “modular integrated construction” method.
A residential lot at no. 202 to 220 Nam Cheong Street was leased to the Council for the prefabricated housing project from Henderson Land Development.
The lease will last two years, for a token fee of HK$1.
