Food delivery man killed after bike collides with taxi in TST

A food delivery man was killed after his bicycle collided with a taxi in Tsim Sha Tsui on Sunday.

The incident happened at around 4 a.m., when the victim, 56, was on his way back to the restaurant where he worked on Woosung Street after delivering ordered food, Apple Daily reports.

The man was pedaling on Canton Road across Victoria Towers, a private residential estate, toward Yau Ma Tei, when a taxi with no passenger hit his bike from behind. It is suspected that the taxi ran out of control as it was trying to change lanes.

The impact threw the bike 10 meters away, while the victim fell on the taxi’s windshield before ending up unconscious on the ground. He suffered serious head injuries.

Police and paramedics arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where the cyclist was pronounced dead at 4:45 a.m.

The taxi driver, 41, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death.

The Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon West is following up on the investigation.

Police urged anybody who witnessed the incident or has any information to offer to contact the investigating officers at 3661 9000 or 3661 9058.
