HK man, female companion killed in Thailand motorcycle crash

A Hong Kong man and his mainland female companion died in a motorcycle accident in northern Thailand over the weekend, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.

A car apparently went out of control and crashed into the motorcycle the couple was riding on a highway in Lampang province, some 100 kilometers from Chiang Mai, on Saturday.

It is said that the road was slippery because of rains as the motorcycle was traveling downhill when the incident happened.

The Hong Kong man was identified as Wong Siu-ming, 44. He died on the way to the hospital, local reports said.

His 28-year-old companion, Hung Fangwei, sustained head injuries and died on the spot.

The Thai driver of the car was injured and later arrested by local authorities, the reports said.

The Hong Kong Immigration Department has communicated with the local Chinese consulate general and contacted the victims’ next of kin for further arrangements.
