Races and free concerts set for Dragon Boat Carnival

Everything is set for the annual Dragon Boat Carnival on the Central Harbourfront.

Organized by the Tourism Board and the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association, the three-day event will kick off next Friday.

The highlight will be the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races. Some 4,500 participants from 15 countries will form 160 teams to compete for the championship.

New awards such as the “Milk Tea Trophy” and “Greater Bay Area Trophy” will be introduced during the competition.

At least 14 food trucks will be deployed at the harbourfront to cater for the crowd.

An artificial beach the size of two basketball courts with beach umbrellas and benches will also be set up in the area for the use of visitors.

There will also be a free Sunset Concert on the beach on June 23 and 24.

All in all, the events are expected to draw 80,000 people, the Tourism Board said.
