A 41-year-old school teacher died in a traffic accident in Kowloon Bay.
The man was riding a motorcycle on Wang Chiu Road at around 12:40 p.m. Monday when his vehicle collided with a light goods vehicle (LGV) heading toward Mong Kok, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.
He was found lying unconscious on the road when police, firemen and paramedics arrived at the scene.
He was sent to the United Christian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:11 p.m.
The LGV driver, 59, was arrested and detained for dangerous driving.
The victim taught business, accounting and financial studies (BAFS) and integrated humanities at Lingnan Hang Yee Memorial Secondary School in Siu Sai Wan. Students and faculty members were saddened by his death, according to a statement issued by the school.
Lawmaker Ip Kin-yuen, who represents the education sector and is vice president of the Hong Kong Professional Teachers’ Union (HKPTU), described him as responsible and proactive.
Cheung Yui-fai, director of HKPTU’s Education Research Department, said the man was a leading member of the BAFS Concern Group and had expressed to the government the views of fellow teachers on matters affecting the sector.
