Niantic, the US firm best known for the Pokémon Go game, has announced the acquisition of yet another developer as it seeks to boost its strength in the augmented reality gaming business.
The San Francisco-based company said on Tuesday that it has taken control of Seismic Games, a developer of games for Facebook, iOS and Android devices.
The founders of Seismic Games, which is headquartered in Los Angeles, contributed development efforts to prevailing games such as the original Star Wars: Battlefront, Niantic noted.
Seismic currently works with key players including Marvel, FoxNext and Sony Television in relation to mobile and VR games such as Marvel: Strikeforce and Blade Runner: Revelations.
Seismic will keep seeing through “its existing slate of titles in development” as it proceeds into constructing all “new AR experiences” for Niantic, according to its new owner.
“We recently gave a peek under the hood of the Niantic Real World Platform, and we see the addition of Seismic Games as a significant accelerant for realizing our vision of an operating system that bridges the digital and the physical worlds,” Engadget quoted Niantic as saying in a statement.
According to Business Insider, Seismic Games marks the fourth acquisition for Niantic since November last year.
