AlipayHK seeks to allay fears of credit card data leaks

AlipayHK said it has found attempts at unauthorized payments by people using the mobile payment platform with stolen credit card information.

However, the company stressed that the stolen data, such as credit card numbers, expiration dates, and security codes, came “from other sources”, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.

As a standard procedure, AlipayHK users are notified of all payments through text messages, the company said.

It also noted that when a credit card is linked to an Alipay account, the company will freeze 10 HK cents as an authorization procedure and the credit card company will then send a text message to the user.

Through this procedure, users should be immediately notified if their credit cards are stolen, the company said in a statement.

AlipayHK said it is using the standard procedure in the credit card industry, adding that users can contact the credit card company or the police if they found any suspicious transactions.
