Maid arrested after serving employer tea ‘laced with bleach’

An Indonesian domestic helper was arrested on Sunday after she was accused of serving her female employer a cup of tea mixed with bleach.

Police said at around 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, the 42-year-old employer drank a cup of green tea prepared by the 26-year-old maid and then felt unwell at her home in Beaulieu Peninsula, a luxury private estate in So Kwun Wat, Tuen Mun, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.

Suspecting that the maid might have put something in the tea, the employer called the police.

After initial investigation, police arrested the maid on suspicion of administering poison with intent to injure.

It is understood that the maid had worked for her employer for only three months and the two have had a poor relationship.

The employer’s condition was fine after being sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for examination and treatment.
