New burglary reported at The Peak; Dee Poon said to be victim

Police are looking into a reported break-in and burglary at a luxury apartment belonging to Dee Poon Chu-ying, the daughter of business tycoon  Dickson Poon Dik-sang, in the upscale Peak area.

Investigating the case, authorities took into custody a 32-year-old man who was found loitering in the wealthy neighborhood under suspicious circumstances.

A break-in was reported to the police on Sunday by a domestic helper who works at an apartment on the lower floor of the Cragside Mansion on Barker Road.

Noticing a window pried open and detecting signs of ransacking in a bedroom and a cloakroom, the maid raised an alert at around 10 am.

Examining the premises, police learnt that some jewelry and two mobile phones were found missing.

Conducting a search in the neighborhood, officers saw a man moving around in a strange manner. The man was arrested on suspicion of loitering, and is being questioned.

The suspect was later taken to a unit in Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui for further searches. Police don’t rule out the possibility that the person was connected to the fresh burglary at the Peak.

The victim in the latest burglary in the area, where some of Hong Kong’s wealthiest people live, is said to be businesswoman Dee Poon, 36, the daughter of Dickson Poon, who is chairman of Dickson Concepts, a Hong Kong-listed retailer and distributor of high fashion apparel.

Dee Poon was named a member of the Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority last year.

According to reports, the businesswoman had been away from Hong Kong  early this month, when the break-in happened.
