Hong Kong man, 41, dies while diving off Okinawa coast

A Hong Kong man died in Okinawa on Sunday after drowning during a diving trip to the Japanese island prefecture. 

The man, 41, was there with his wife for vacation when he signed up for a diving experience tour at Cape Maeda, a famous diving spot situated in Onna Village.

According to reports, the man went scuba diving and suddenly felt unwell underwater and drowned before he was rescued.

He was said to be in a semi-conscious state when pulled ashore. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead later.

Japanese authorities are investigating the cause of his death.

Hong Kong’s Immigration Department has got in touch with China’s foreign affairs representative in Hong Kong as well as the Chinese consulate general in Fukuoka, Japan in a bid to provide necessary assistance in light of the tragedy.

The deceased man’s family has also been contacted in relation to the matter.
