Singapore again tops Skytrax airport ranking; HK slips to No. 5

Singapore’s Changi Airport has grabbed the top honor for the fourth year in a row in world airport rankings by Skytrax, while Hong Kong slipped one notch to the fifth position.

Changi’s popularity is due to its “continuing ability to be able to innovate in product and service options for its customers, and to make the experience as relaxing and comfortable as possible,” Edward Plaisted, chief executive of Skytrax, said in a statement.

This is the seventh time that the Singapore airport has topped the rankings of Skytrax, a UK-based airline review and rating agency.

The 2016 World’s Best Airport awards were handed out at a ceremony in Cologne, Germany, on Wednesday.

Skytax gives the rankings after collecting millions of votes through passenger surveys around the world each year.

“To be named the World’s Best Airport by Skytrax for the fourth year running is a… clear affirmation that we continue to hit the right notes in our pursuit of excellence,” Lee Seow Hiang, CEO of Chiang Airport Group, said in a statement.

Changi also collected an award for best Leisure Amenities at an airport, such as music bar lounges, the swimming pool, and the napping and rest areas in the in-terminal Transit Hotel.

Hong Kong International Airport was in the No. 5 spot in the latest Skytrax rankings, dropping one place from last year when was identified as the world’s fourth best airport.

In 2011, Hong Kong topped the list.

Asian airports took six of the top 10 slots this year, while Munich (No. 3) topped the list among European airports.

London’s Heathrow Airport was in 8th position overall.

Skytrax survey evaluates customer satisfaction across 39 key areas such as service and product from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration, through to departure at the gate.
