An Indonesian domestic helper was sentenced to five months in prison after being founded guilty of seven charges of child abuse in the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts, RTHK reported.

The employer of Adriana Marsalina, 38, saw her on video from a home cam slapping and hitting the wrists of the young children under her care -- a four-year-old girl and two-year-old boy.

Magistrate So Wai-tak said Marsalina had struck her employer's children at least 20 times.

Admitting that she hit them, Marsalina said she did not use much force and only wanted to teach the children to behave well during meals and at homework time.

She said wounds found on the children were caused by their parents.

Citing the surveillance video, So said Marsalina was always focusing on her mobile phone instead of spending time teaching the children.

Marsalina showed no regret, the magistrate said.

The Support Group for HK Employers with Foreign Domestic Helpers said a five-month jail term is too short.
