Hong Kong International Airport is the world’s second-best, eclipsed by Singapore’s Changi airport for the second straight year in a survey of readers of the US-based Travel + Leisure magazine.

A spokesman for HKIA said it handled 63.4 million passengers last year, the second-highest number ever, and said it will keep offering high-quality services, Apple Daily reported Thursday.

Among the world's best airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways slipped to fourth from third last year.

Singapore Airlines again tops the rankings this year, as it has done since 1996, followed by Emirates and Qatar Airways.

The survey, conducted between November and March, uses criteria including cabin comfort and in-flight service.

A spokesman for Cathay Pacific declined to comment on its ranking but said the airline has been regularly reviewing its products and services.

Kyoto, Japan, tops the list of the world's best cities for travelers for the second straight year, followed by Charleston, South Carolina (the site of the recent church shootings); Siem Reap, Cambodia; and Italy's Florence and Rome.
