A young man, identified as a Polish national, was found dead near the water's edge at the Wan Chai ferry pier early Saturday.

Authorities suspect that the man, who was 19 years in age, may have injured his head after falling off an under-construction ferry docking facility at the pier, according to Ming Pao Daily.

At 7 am, staff at the pier found the man lying on a lying face down on a construction platform near the shoreline. He was bleeding from the head.

Police were called in. He was certified dead at the scene.

Authorities found some cash and passport in a bag nearby.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the police suspect that the man may have fallen off a 4-meter-high docking facility that was under construction.

The body has been sent for an autopsy, which will help determine the exact cause of his death.

The police, meanwhile, will look into the possible motives of the man in climbing on to the under-construction dock.
