A Filipino domestic helper committed suicide at her employer's home in Shui Chiu San Tsuen in Yuen Long district Monday evening, Apple Daily reported.

The woman, a 38-year-old who bears the first name Florence, is believed to be married and having children back home in the Philippines. She had been working in Hong Kong for many years.

She was found hanging in the living room, with a nylon rope around her neck, at around 6pm on Monday when her 48-year-old employer returned home, according to the report.

Florence left no note behind but it is suspected that her suicide might be related to some family issues or a severe neck pain that she had been complaining about recently.

Her employer said she did not observe any suicidal behavior in the maid prior to this tragedy.

Authorities would be conducting a post-mortem.
