Passengers on the MTR’s South Island Line (East) (SIL(E)) can expect to pay between HK$5.20 (67 US cents) and HK$8 for a journey within Hong Kong Island when the line starts operating by the end of the year.

It will likely cost HK$13.80 for a journey from stops on the line on Hong Kong Island to Kowloon East, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reported Wednesday, citing figures from the Transport Department.

SIL(E) is a seven-kilometer-long medium-capacity railway line from Admiralty Station to a new station at South Horizons, with intermediate stations at Ocean Park, Wong Chuk Hang and Lei Tung.

MTR Corp. says a journey between South Horizons Station and Admiralty Station will take about 11 minutes, and it will take four to seven minutes to travel to Ocean Park Station from Admiralty Station or Central Station.

The estimated journey time from stops on the new line to Kowloon East will range from 25 minutes to 43 minutes.

With the commissioning of the SIL(E), the Transport Department is recommending the cancellation of 11 franchised bus routes operated by New World First Bus and Citybus, and the introduction of 10 new franchised bus and minibus routes linked to MTR stations.

MTR Corp. said in a statement that the fares for the SIL(E) will be similar to those for all of its lines, but the exact fares will only be announced just before the line begins service.
