The Peak: A gorgeous spot to take in entire city

I have lost count of the number of times I have bumped into couples in wedding attire posing for souvenir pictures at tram stations on Hong Kong Island.

Apart from the tramway, Hong Kong Trail Section One of the Peak also serves as a romantic setting for shooting wedding photos.

Walking along Lugard Road, one can enjoy stunning views of the entire city.

Victoria Peak Garden near the summit of the Peak and the Béthanie with its neo-Gothic architectural style at the end of Pok Fu Lam Reservoir Road are two gorgeous spots for taking pictures of loving couples.

Even in high heels, the bride would find walking on Lugard Road quite a breeze because the path is mostly flat.

As your eyes scan the panorama, you will first see Causeway Bay, then Wan Chai, Admiralty, Central, Sheung Wan and Sai Wan.

Across the harbor is the Hong Kong Clock Tower of Tsim Sha Tsui, but it looks like a miniature model from afar.

It's not difficult to take an impressive picture of the Victoria Harbor, but it would be even more striking when taken at sunset or in the evening.

The Victoria Peak Garden features a lovely manicured lawn with the design of a traditional British garden.

There are many Victorian-style features like gazebos, benches and colorful flowers.

With so many installations in place, it is easy to pose for pictures from different angles.

Those who might find the circle walk at the Peak too short should head to Pok Fu Lam Reservoir, either by going beyond Harlech Road or returning to the start of Lugard Road and going down Pok Fu Lam Reservoir Road.

The Béthanie is at 139 Pok Fu Lam Road. Built in 1875 by the Society of Foreign Missions, the complex is now being used by the School of Film and Television as well as the second campus of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

You need to make advance bookings to visit the museum or for guided tours and wedding photo shoots.

Getting there:

To go to the Peak: Take Peak Tram, First Bus routes 15 from Central, 15B from Wan Chai, or Hong Kong Island GMB Route 1 at Hong Kong MTR station.

To return from the Bethanie: Take First Bus routes 4, 4X, 30X, 71, 91 to Central, 37B, 40M, 90B to Admiralty, 40 to Wan Chai North, or 973 to Tsim Sha Tsui.

Time: About two hours
