BYD, ADL win London order for 14 e-buses

BYD Co Ltd. (01211.HK) and Alexander Dennis Ltd. (ADL) have won an order for 14 units of their 10.8-meter pure electric buses from Transport for London, the Shenzhen-based company said Friday.
The new buses will be deployed on route 360, which runs between Royal Albert Hall and Elephant & Castle, by Transport for London and its subsidiary Go-Ahead London, BYD said.
In July 2015, BYD and ADL confirmed a £19 million (US$23.53 million) deal to supply Go-Ahead London with 51 emission-free, pure electric buses on routes 507 and 521, which run between Waterloo and Victoria.
The 12-meter single-decker bus, powered by BYD’s electric power-engine and bodied by ADL under the latter’s Enviro200 brand, began operations in September. It can run 150 to 190 miles a day with a 3.5-hour charge and carry up to 90 passengers.
In October 2016, BYD and ADL won a £2.3 million order from Arriva North West and Merseytravel to supply 12 e-buses for the Liverpool City region, North West England.
Last July, BYD and ADL launched a 10.8-meter version of their Enviro200EV bus to meet demand from UK bus operators, which said a 12-meter bus is just too long. The shorter bus can carry up to 79 passengers.
BYD said it sold more than 100,000 electric vehicles last year, up from 61,000 units previously.
