The latest Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona shows that the era of 5G is finally upon us. Most mobile producers, including Samsung, LG, Huawei, ZTE, Sony, HTC, and Xiaomi, have launched their 5G devices or solutions.

Indeed, 2019 will be a critical year for the telecoms industry. 5G services will enhance the speed of downloads and uploads significantly, and various applications will come on stream.

The launch of the foldable phone is another hot topic this year. Huawei has introduced Mate X, after Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. TCL has also unveiled its prototype. These foldable smartphones all have a high price tag but I believe demand will still outstrip supply.

Such foldable screens can be applied to wearable devices or other smart devices. That will open up a completely new space for innovations and competition.

Apart from fast speed, 5G also has lower network latency than 4G. That will enable some important systems to operate in real time. For example, vehicle-to-everything or V2X is essentially a smart traffic system, which could help tackle traffic jams in many places.

Are you ready for the 5G era?
