HKPC lines up projects to tighten cooperation in GBA
Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong province will establish a technology and innovation corridor encompassing their regions as part of efforts to tighten cooperation in the Greater Bay Area.
Edmond Lai Shiao-bun, the chief digital officer of Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), said the scheme is part of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area released in February.
In order to strengthen integration and achieve greater synergy among the participating regions, the HKPC last year collaborated with the China Association of Productivity Promotion Centers, the Guangdong Productivity Council and the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre to jointly establish an alliance for the promotion of productivity in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The alliance aims to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of industrial and commercial firms, particularly small and medium-scale enterprises, in the GBA.
It will set up an "SME One" service platform, which will offer local industry information and technical advice to such enterprises.
The HKPC has also established an innovation and technology center as well as a GBA office in Futian, Shenzhen.
The center aims to support smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence, big data and environmental technology projects by offering integrated services, shared space and an exchange platform for SMEs and startups in the GBA.
The HKPC is also collaborating with the Guangdong Productivity Council to launch “The Greater Bay Area Seminar Series”, in which government officials and industry experts in the GBA are invited to share trends and opportunities in their regions.
The first seminar, held on Monday, focused on the Pingshan District of Shenzhen.
Pingshan has been offering multiple incentives to attract more SMEs and startups into the district.
For example, it has put up a 50 million yuan (US$7.22 million) sponsorship fund to promote innovation and patent applications.
Pingshan has also established several incubation centers to help SMEs through management assistance and technology services.
Shenzhen Tianyue Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., Shenzhen JYMed Technology Co. Ltd. and Shenzhen Xunfengtong Electronics Co. Ltd. are some of the companies working with the incubator.
