Almost 10,000 people defy mandatory Covid testing
The government has revealed that almost 10,000 people who were mandated to get Covid-19 tests by Monday still had not done so by Tuesday evening, according to RTHK report.
About 55,000 people covered in the compulsory testing notices published on December 30 and 31 have taken the virus test, according to the Home Affairs Department, or about 85 percent.
Failure to comply with a compulsory testing notice can lead to a fine of HK$5,000.
The government warned it would take "resolute" action to ensure the public complies with mandatory testing orders.
Mobile specimen collection stations or other testing avenues for the 42 specified premises have been arranged to provide testing for those covered by the compulsory testing notices.
Sixteen positive Covid-19 infections were uncovered in this round of mandatory testing.
