Pandemic restrictions to be eased, at last
From Thursday, some of the social distancing rules for catering and other businesses will be relaxed as the Covid-19 situation has improved, Secretary for Food & Health Sophia Chan said Tuesday.
Restaurants will be able to provide dine-in services until 10pm and some venues, such as cinemas, gyms and beauty salons will be allowed to reopen.
“While we are looking at the number of cases every day and the entire situation, we felt that this is the time that we are able to gradually relax,” said Chan.
Hong Kong has seen a decline in the number of confirmed cases, with infections remaining at low double-digit figures and unlinked cases at single digits, she pointed out. Meanwhile, sewage study also showed negative results in various districts.
Restaurants and other businesses allowed to reopen will be required to get their staff tested every 14 days. They also have to use the government’s Covid-tracing app LeaveHomeSafe.
Still, Chan warned that further easing won’t happen any time soon, nothing that the government will keep a close eye on whether there’s a resurgence of cases after the Lunar New Year holiday is over.
