Hong Kong: Steady progress on COVID vaccinations
A combination of increasing awareness of the importance of vaccination, prize money sponsored by the private sector as well as tighter testing requirements for specific groups of workers continue to fuel the steady rise of the take up of COVID-19 vaccines.
About 7.05 million doses of vaccines have been administered to the public as of Sunday according to the government. Out of which, more than 3.1 million people have already received two jabs, slightly above 40 percent of the city’s population.
At the beginning of the month, the government announced that its employees have to get vaccinated, or they will be required to get tested every two weeks.
Restaurant workers, staff at schools, care homes, among others, have already been required to get tested on a regular basis if they opt not to get vaccinated.
In a bid to keep the pandemic under control and lay the foundation to reboot the economy, the government has been adopting different measures to keep the momentum of the vaccine drive.
