GM takes aim at Tesla with more affordable EV models

General Motors presented its upcoming EV portfolio at its investor event Wednesday, with the full-size electric pickup Chevrolet Silverado as the centerpiece, according to TechCrunch reports.

The electric Silverado would debut at the trade show CES in January 2022,GM confirmed.

GM’s new electric truck will be meeting competitions from releases of Ford and Rivian, as rivalry in the growing electric truck market heats up.

Truck is one of the best-selling vehicle types in the US.

In addition to upcoming GMC Hummer pickup and Cadillac Lyriq ,crossovers from GM’s other brands Chevy and Buick were also announced.

As a linchpin of its pivot to EV, the automaker plans to invest $35 billion through 2025 on electrification and autonomous vehicle tech, while also doubling its revenue by the end of the decade.

Compared with leading EV brand Tesla, GM CEO Mary Barra has emphasized that the company will offer “really affordable EVs for people” to lure customers.
