A rock festival to fix Hong Kong's social issues?

Organizers of a planned rock concert seem to think so, hoping it will allow young Hong Kong people to let off steam after the recent street protests, Wen Wei Po reported Tuesday.

But netizens are laughing off the idea.

“It’s too naive to rely on a rock band to fix social issues,” some netizens said.

Organizers are planning to invite Mayday, a popular Taiwanese alternative rock band, to headline the event which will be held in May in the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal.

It will be similar to the popular HK Dome Festival in West Kowloon, which attracts young crowds.

Mayday has a young and growing following in Hong Kong, the report said.

“Actually, Mayday usually holds a concert in Hong Kong around May,” an online commenter said, suggesting the band's appearance is routine.

Instead, some netizens are calling on Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying to step down to provide "some real relief", according to Ming Pao Daily.
