Ocean Park to give away 10,000 tickets to HK residents

Ocean Park is giving away 10,000 tickets to Hong Kong residents in celebration of its 38th anniversary and stellar ticket sales.

Hong Kong ID card holders can register on Ocean Park’s Facebook page between January 10 and 16 and answer a simple question related to the theme park for a chance to win a complimentary ticket worth HK$348 (US$44.70).

The total value of the giveaways is HK$3.48 million.

The park originally intended to give the tickets away on a first-come-first-served basis but later decided to draw lots so as to be fair to all its supporters, a spokeswoman said.

Winners will have to collect the free tickets in person at Ocean Park. The tickets can be used between January 20 and April 30.

Ocean Park said it hosted a record 7.8 million visitors in 2014, breaking the record of 7.5 million set the previous year, Apple Daily reported Wednesday.

During the month of November, when the Occupy protests blocked several major streets, about 600,000 people visited the amusement park, the highest figure for the month in the park’s history.

The spokeswoman said ticket sales increased during the protests, which was opposite to expectations.

“The number of visitors from the mainland’s solo visitor scheme has dropped, but there were more local visitors and tour groups,” she said.
