Police investigator in dock for indecent assault

A police criminal investigator will appear in court Friday, charged with indecent assault on a woman under questioning for alleged shop theft.

The 26-year-old officer, surnamed Kong, confessed to molesting the woman inside a toilet of the police headquarters in Wan Chai, Ming Pao Daily reported Friday.

Police officials said Kong had told the woman she needed to undergo a body check before she could leave the building despite having been granted police bail.

Kong then took the woman to a basement toilet and frisked her, they said.

The woman told investigators Kong touched her breasts twice but she was too afraid to resist.

Kong was arrested on Wednesday in his Tseung Kwan O home. He has been with the police force less than six years and has recently joined the criminal investigation unit.

Lawmaker Gary Fan said the case is as worrying as the one in 2008 when a policeman raped a woman inside a police station in Mong Kok.

He demanded an explanation from the police department.

Meanwhile, police authorities said they are angry about the incident, adding police discipline is always treated with the utmost concern.
