Messaging platform WhatsApp has announced a new service that will allow users to send messages from their desktops using web browsers.
In blog post announcing the feature Wednesday, the company however said the messages will still remain on users’ phones.
“Our Web client is simply an extension of your phone: the Web browser mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device — this means all of your messages still live on your phone,” the company wrote.
The desktop messaging option currently will not be available to users who access the app on Apple devices “due to Apple platform limitations”, it said, according to the BBC.
WhatsApp, which was acquired by Facebook last year in a deal worth about US$19 billion, said recently that it has around 700 million mobile users.
