China hackers used Forbes website to attack blue-chip firms: FT

Chinese hackers hijacked the Forbes website and used it to target thousands of computers linked to blue-chip firms, including US defense contractors and banks, Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

During a four-day period from November 28 to December 1 last year, any visitor to the Forbes website would have been infected by the Chinese attack, the report cited cyber security company iSight Partners as saying.

The attack was said to have been launched through Forbes’ “thought for the day” pop-up screen that welcomes visitors to the site and is run using Adobe software.

iSight, which detected the intrusion on some of its clients’ networks, blamed a Chinese hacking group known as Codoso. The cyber-security firm believes the attack was state-backed.

A spokesperson for Forbes was quoted as saying that the vulnerability had now been fixed.
