Online travel firm Ctrip suffers hacker attack

Ctrip.com International Ltd., China’s largest online travel firm, saw some of its servers come under hacker attack on Thursday, causing disruptions to its website and mobile app services for many hours.

The Shanghai-based company said “unidentified sources” were behind the attack which began shortly after 11 am local time on May 28.

However, it assured that customer reservation and other data remained safe, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The service is said to have been restored at 10:45 pm the same day.

US-based Priceline Group said this week that it plans to increase its investment in Ctrip, investing US$250 million through a convertible bond after making a US$500 million investment last summer.

That could result in Priceline’s stake in Ctrip rise to 10.5 percent, according to the report.
