The big eyes of the Tiger Mom bothering you?
Take her to court!
That’s what a man in Shanghai did to actress Vicki Zhao Wei, whom he filed a lawsuit against for staring at him too intensely through his television set.
In the new prime-time TV series Tiger Mom, Zhao, one of China’s biggest and wealthiest movie stars, plays a driven mother who pushes her daughter to succeed.
An official at Shanghai Pudong New District Court confirmed a lawsuit had been filed against Zhao but refused to say whether the court had accepted the case, AP reported.
The Legal Daily said the plaintiff alleged Zhao’s stare caused him “spiritual damage”.
Rules that took effect May 1 making it easier to file lawsuits in China have led to concern over frivolous claims, AP said.
The regulations, which make it more difficult for courts to reject lawsuits, led to an increase in cases nationwide of 29 percent last month from the same period last year, to just over 1 million cases, Supreme People’s Court figures show.
Gan Wen, deputy head of a case-filing chamber at the Supreme Court, said at a news conference Tuesday the Shanghai case was an example of citizens abusing their right to file lawsuits.
“It’s not necessary to waste our judicial resources on cases like these,” Gan said.
