Mourning villager dies after two men hit him with bottles

A 60-year-old Sheung Shui villager did not long outlive his son, Apple Daily reported Tuesday.

The man, surnamed Pang, was drinking at a store Friday near his home in Fanling Wai.

He wept as he mourned his son, who recently died in a car accident in Hunan province on a visit to his mother, Pang’s ex-wife.

Two men, a 47-year-old surnamed Lau and a 37 year-old surnamed Chong, were unhappy with Pang’s crying, the report said.

The pair exchanged words with Pang, and a fight started.

Pang first attacked the two men with a chair but was then hit on the head several times with wine bottles, the newspaper said.

He was still conscious when he was taken to hospital.

But his condition worsened, and he was transferred to Prince of Wales Hospital’s intensive care unit, where he died of brain damage.

The two men were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and are in police custody.
