12 South Asians arrested over ‘gang war’ in Yuen Long

Police arrested 12 South Asians at Shui Pin Wai Estate in Yuen Long after local residents reported a violent fight in the neighborhood, Apple Daily reported on Tuesday.

Those arrested were were believed to be gang members who were fighting another gang, police said.

Many of the suspected gangsters escaped after a team of police officers swooped down on the compound with truncheons, shields and police dogs.

A search of the neighborhood yielded extendable batons and steel tubes.

The 12 people arrested will be charged with illegal assembly.

Initial investigation showed that the fight resulted from a conflict of interest between the two gangs which have connections with criminal groups, the report said.

The anti-triad unit of the Yuen Long Police District has stepped into the case, it added.
