Pieces of escalator break off at Times Square in HK, no one hurt

Pieces broke off an escalator at Times Square in Hong Kong, but no one was injured, Headline Daily reported.

A netizen posted a photo on social media, saying a loud noise was heard on Sunday morning at the popular shopping mall in Causeway Bay.

Pictures showed parts of the escalator leading to the lobby had broken off and were scattered on the ground.

No one was on the escalator at the time.

The escalator was stopped and blocked to prevent anyone from approaching it, the report said.

A spokesman for Times Square apologized for the incident, saying that the mall operator checks and maintains the escalators regularly.

The firm is now contacting the supplier to find out why the incident occurred.

A 30-year-old mother was killed when she was swallowed up by a defective escalator at a shopping mall in Jingzhou, Hubei province, last week.
