Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) on Tuesday launched an entrepreneurship fellow program that will offer pre-incubation support for young people seeking to launch technology ventures.
The program, called ASTRI Innovation Runway, aims to help tech entrepreneurs overcome various obstacles at the initial stage of starting up.
The Innovation and Technology Commission and Microsoft Corp. are sponsoring the program.
Selected teams will receive a monthly grant of HK$9,000, mentorship support, office facilities, field trips to successful technology companies in mainland China, workshops, training and networking activities, among other assistance.
They may also utilize ASTRI’s patents and license them for commercialization upon graduation.
Microsoft Hong Kong will provide technical training and workshops, for example, on Azure and other cloud solutions.
After spending at least three months in the program, the teams will receive graduation certification if they can set up a company in Hong Kong or join other companies or incubators.
The AIR program has begun accepting online applications, with participants’ selection scheduled for Oct. 19. A maximum of 20 people will be admitted as Fellows of the program.
